This Minnesota bride shared the details of her engagement and the day she got married. We couldn’t be any more enthralled by this sweet and witty couple!
From the bride:
The day we got engaged started out as any other day; we woke up, had breakfast and started off on our adventure. We discussed earlier in that week that we wanted to go up to Taylor’s Falls before the leaves fell. We packed up the car and headed on our way. After a beautiful day of walking around and taking in the sights, we found ourselves back at the car. John announced that he had a little surprise for me which turned out to be a bottle of wine and two Solo cups. We watched the sun start to set and then made our way down to a spot on the river. After about a half hour of chatting and John saying very loving and nice things to me, we headed back to the car because we had family dinner to make. As we were walking back to the car along the river, John says, “Oh wait there’s one more thing”. I turned around and there he was on one knee with a ring asking me to marry him! I was so excited I grabbed him and just started kissing him! Of course my answer was YES, which I forgot to tell him until we were walking back to the car. John had to secretly plan family dinner so it looked as if it wasn’t for any specific reason. Thanks to John’s planning we were able to celebrate with both sets of families after the engagement.
John and I wanted a wedding that was very traditional, romantic, simple, formal but still fun. When we walked into the Calhoun Beach Club, the venue spoke for itself. It was elegant but very simple and breath taking. With the oversize chandlers, the gorgeous patio with views of Lake Calhoun, and the staircase in the room we got married, we knew this venue was perfect. As far as attire, we wanted a look that was formal but fit our overall style of classic, traditional, and romantic. For the guys, we went with the traditional look of tuxes but added a little flair with bowties. The same went for the bridesmaid dresses, we wanted elegant but something that was still fun for them, so we decided on a long black dress that complemented the silhouette of my dress as well. The look of my dress was something I couldn’t envision until I ended up walking into Ultimate Bride in Chicago. It was the first dress I tried on and was instantly in love. The lines were simple but had a very unique and different look that still felt very elegant. It was the dress of my dreams! The overall look as everyone kept telling me was very Audrey Hepburn-esque.
We wanted anything we brought into the Calhoun Beach Club to be very simple and elegant as the space was everything we already wanted for our wedding, so we decided flowers were the only element we wanted to elaborate on. For our romantic vision, we went with a combination of white hydrangeas and roses mixed with some greenery along with candles. Our florist did an incredible job at making our vision come to life!
Enjoy this stage of your life because it goes by so quickly! Don’t get caught up in the small details of the wedding because the day of, the only thing that matters is the person you are marrying and the connection you share. The past four years we have built a strong, respectful and caring relationship filled with lots of love, laughter and plenty of memories. I am so excited to be Mrs. John Boyle and see where our journey takes us!
